Admissions [Non Yr8]

Admissions Criteria into Years 9, 10, 11 and 12.

The Board of Governors delegate responsibility, to the Senior Management Team of the school, for the application of Admissions Criteria other than into Year 8

1. A place must be available in the appropriate year group.

2. The school’s enrolment number must not be exceeded.

3. Classes do not need to be significantly reorganised, staffing and timetabling changes made.

4. There must be satisfactory evidence from the school currently attended of satisfactory attendance and behaviour.

5.
(a) If a pupil is in a non grammar secondary school in Northern Ireland he/she should be in the top 10% of the year group in the previous end of year’s examinations. (It is the responsibility of the parents of the child applying to provide information to demonstrate this).

(b) If the pupil is a non fee payer in a grammar school in Northern Ireland academic competence will be assumed.

(c) If a pupil is transferring from outside Northern Ireland suitability will be gauged by the use of entrance tests.

6. If the criteria laid down above are satisfied by more pupils than there are places available, preference will be given according to the following criteria, applied in the order set down:

(a) Pupils transferring from another grammar school in Northern Ireland where their family move into the geographical area served by our traditional primary feeder schools.

(b) Pupils who have a sibling enrolled in the school on the date of transfer or who are the eldest child of the family.

(c) Pupils whose brother/sister attended The Wallace High School.

(d) Pupils who have a parent who attended The Wallace High School.

(e) Pupils attending our usual feeder secondary schools (list available).

(f) Pupils from other schools in Northern Ireland.

(g) Pupils from a school outside Northern Ireland.

Admission to Sixth Form

The Sixth Form entry policy is approved by the Board of Governors and implemented by the Principal and senior staff. It is reviewed on an annual basis and students are required to fulfil criteria for transfer into L6 and into U6.
