Torch Trophy Trust

4207.jpgThe work of Wallace High School senior teacher, Bill Wilson, was recently recognised by The Torch Trophy Trust at a reception in Pall Mall, London.

The Torch Trophy Trust has its origins in the 1948 Olympics held in London. Before every Olympic Games, a torch relay is organised from Athens to the Host City. Following the 1948 Games, the Torch designed for the last leg of the Relay into Wembley Stadium was presented to the Trust, which presents Awards to individuals who have been identified as making an outstanding contribution as a volunteer in their chosen sport. 5606.jpgCurrent Upper Sixth pupils who recently received their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme gold Awards, pictured with leaders Bill Wilson and Lois Stewart. unit Leader Lois Stewart, along with Principal Mrs Anne McBride, also recently attended a special event in Hillsborough Castle, at which the Duke himself was present, to see past pupils Philip Whan, Jonathan Dawson, Ravid Bready, Chris Carson, David Kane and Jonathan Crockett receive their Awards. Going for Gold

300106.jpgThirty former pupils of The Wallace High School were recently presented with Duke of Edinburgh Gold awards at a ceremony n Buckingham Palace. The group, accompanied by teachers Bill Wilson and Lois Stewart, were aged between 18 and 26 and included two sets of siblings - Jack and Harriet Kinkead and Victoria and Lyndsey Ward. 3703.gifThirteen Wallace High School students, along with 4 leaders, headed off to the Pyreneese Mountain Range yesterday to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme gold Expedition. The 13 A Level students were selected to take part in this exciting expedition over eighteen months ago and since then they have taken part in a rigorous training schedule.
