Celebrating Creativity

Written by | News

The Wallace High School Art and Design, Moving Image Arts and Music departments collaborated for an afternoon of ‘Celebrating Creativity’ on Tuesday 10th June. It was a superb turn out to the event given the lovely warm weather and people enjoyed seeing the collective creative output of our exam students.

The afternoon was an opportunity for pupils, parents, friends, staff and Governor’s to view an exhibition of the Art and Design and Moving Image Art work of the GCSE, AS and A2 pupils; the musical compositions of the GCSE, AS and A2 pupils were playing in the various venues around the school and we had the pleasure of a live musical performance from The Wallace High School’s Year 10 Jazz and Blues band who entertained with many pieces of well-known music in addition to some of their own great compositions.

The work displayed showed great diversification in terms of media, subject matter and techniques across the three subject areas. Many were highly experimental and innovative showing a great personal connection with work.

Parents in particular were delighted to see the end result of all the hard work from their children, comments varied from ‘I really didn’t know that she would be capable of this when she started two years ago, I am so proud’ to ‘I am glad to finally get my dining room table back for the summer at least but it has all been worth it when you see the work exhibited’

A number of pieces of both Moving Image Art work and Art and Design work have been recommended for inclusion in the ‘True Colours’ exhibition held by CCEA which showcases examples of work from among the best within Northern Ireland.

We wish all our pupils well as they go off for further study both in the Creative Arts and beyond.
