Famous Past Pupil

As part of the new look Wallace High School website we have introduced a “past pupil” forum. We are aware that many past pupils are still in contact with each other via the web and email and we are hoping that the WHS site will be a focal point in allowing people to catch up with old school friends. The forums are open to anyone attending Wallace High School and we would love as many of our former pupils to sign up and say hello.
Denise Watson left Wallace in 1990 I knew from an early age that I was more talented in the “Art” subjects rather than the “Science” subjects - And therefore when it came to choosing my GCSE/ A Level topics I had no hesitation in dropping Maths, Physics etc as soon as possible. Although I had a lovely maths teacher - Mr Greene - who`s since retired and I see him at my gym all the time! I`ve always been determined to succeed in Media and Television - I used to make tapes of myself as a DJ when I was about 10 and then I plagued hospital radio stations to let me broadcast from the age of 16. English was my favourite subject - I got an A grade at A level and went on to Queens to do a Single Hons degree in English.
Sport is a huge part of life at Wallace - Besides Hockey (which I played up until I was hit by a ball in 4th year by a Victoria College student!) I was Senior Netball Captain and - as Captain of Gracey House - I collected the cup for sport in my final year. I always loved the regal feel to school assembly at Wallace - when the teachers had to wear their gowns - and the modern sports facilities. The sports hall really is second to none! And I loved the way the whole school got behind the rugby team on Schools Cup final day at Ravenhill - We`ll win it soon!
If I could offer any advice to any pupils wanting to go into Media and television I`d say be prepared for many, many rejections. It is such a tough business to break into - But you must believe in yourself and more importantly ALWAYS be yourself. The public can sense a fake a mile off! Do work hard to get the best exam results possible - It does count in this day and age - But enjoy your days at Wallace! I do wish I could go back sometimes and re-read “The Great Gatsby” !
