9706.jpgYears 8 -11 of The Wallace High School took “A Walk in the Park” this week to raise money for charity. The sponsored walk, part of the school’s exciting “Beyond the Classroom 2006” initiative, saw over 700 pupils and staff enjoy the summer sunshine to walk at least five laps of Wallace Park.

Lisburn’s new Mayor, Councillor Trevor Lunn, carried out the official opening of the event. He commented, “I am delighted that one of my first official duties as Mayor of Lisburn was to assist The Wallace High School’s “A Walk in the Park”. I was very impressed by the enthusiasm of the Wallace pupils – it’s always good to see young people making an effort for such worthy causes.”

Principal of The Wallace High School, Mrs Anne McBride, concluded,”The aim of this week’s activities is to enable our young people to continue their education beyond the classroom and to develop new skills. The opportunity to contribute to charity and at the same time take exercise through the sponsored walk combines the school’s emphasis on generosity of spirit and healthy lifestyles.”
