Wallace High School’s Upper Sixth pupils commenced their study leave last week. A busy programme of events was planned for what was a rather emotional last day for pupils, some of whom had spent fourteen years at the school. Following a special Form Assembly which included the issue of Records of Achievement and Examination Cards, the pupils’ Committee gave an entertaining powerpoint presentation reflecting on their school lives.
Highlights for the year group included the success of the First XV rugby team reaching the final of the Schools’ Cup for just the third time in Wallace’s history, the formation of a boyband , “One True Vote”, to raise money for charity and the memorable Sixth Form Christmas Show, ” Christmas Pie” -a Wallace tradition which spans several decades and this year raised over £1400 for the Simon community.
The pupils then made several presentations to both Form and Sixth Form Centre Staff, recognising their efforts in helping to make their Sixth Form years so worthwhile.
Subject teachers then joined the Sixth Formers for morning coffee, welcoming the opportunity to wish their pupils well for both their forthcoming A2 examinations and their futures. A relaxed and informal afternoon rounded off the day – a bouncy castle, barbecue and disco had been organised at the school’s sports pitches, giving the pupils the opportunity to have fun together and reminisce over their years at the Clonevin Park School.
Sixth Form Committee member Lynne Daniel commented, “Our final day of school was very special and we’d like to thank all the staff at Wallace who made it possible. People say that schooldays are the best days of your life – we as a form have certainly gained a great deal from our time at Wallace High.”
Head Boy Adam Wood added, ” Our last day was the perfect way to end our time at school. We all had loads of fun on the bouncy castle and enjoyed what was our last time we’ll alll be together as a form.”
Head of Upper Sixth Mrs Pauline Flavelle said, ” The activities on leaving Day gave our pupils the opportunity to unwind following a year’s hard work and before the rigours of study leave. We at Wallace wish them well for the future.”
