European Day of Languages

31906.jpgThe Wallace High School celebrated the European Day of Languages last week with a series of innovative events. Whilst all the member states across the EU were celebrating the wide diversity of languages and cultures which now exist within modern day Europe on Tuesday 26 September, here in Lisburn Wallace High pupils and teachers impressed with their enthusiasm and knowledge of a wide variety of linguistic knowledge.

Pupils from Years 11 and 14 conducted school Assemblies in French, German and Spanish whilst Year 8 had a French break with croissants and jus d’orange. Years 9 and 10 took part in a badge making competition to promote language learning and pupils Years 11 and 12 demonstrated their knowledge of the European Union in a table quiz.

Wallace High Sixth years also taught language taster lessons to all the classes in the Prep Department and in Harmony Hill Primary school. A2 student Janice Scott commented,”Teaching P4 in Harmony Hill was great fun -the pupils were all very keen to learn some German and as I hope to be a Primary School teacher it was a really useful experience for me too.”

Back at Wallace, the entire teaching staff were encouraged to show off their linguistic knowledge by starting their lessons in a language other than English.Head of Modern Languages, Pam Brown, concluded, “The week was a great success and thanks go to everyone who participated so enthusiastically in all the events.”
