Platinum Awards 2007

The Wallace High School held a special end of year ceremony last week in recognition of the tremendous achievement of eighteen of its Junior School pupils. The pupils, from Years 8 and 9, have all achieved platinum Awards in the school’s merit system.

Head of Year 8 Mrs Norma Cairns explained, “All pupils in our Junior School are given a merit card in which members of staff can record significant aspects of positive work, effort or conduct. These can range from academic excellence and improved effort to acts of kindness and maturity. I am happy to say that over 35% of our Year 8 pupils achieved a Gold Award this year, and am delighted that 12 Year 8 pupils and 6 pupils in Year 9 were presented with Platinum awards.”

Principal Mrs Anne McBride welcomed pupils, parents and representatives from the pupils’ feeder primary schools to the Awards Ceremony, commenting that this was a very important occasion for the school. These sentiments were echoed by Mr Graham Sutton, Chairman of the Board of Governors, who said, “It gives me particular pleasure to recognise such praiseworthy attributes such as progress, achievement and contribution to school life.”

Assistant Head of Year 9, Mrs Yvonne Clements, added, “The six Year 9 pupils receiving awards are a credit to the school and their families and I would like to applaud the lovely attitude which they display at all times and their willingness to help.”

Following the presentation pupils and their guests had the chance to relax over afternoon tea, providing a fitting end to what has been a very successful year for these young people.
