PTA Craft Fair- Biggest in the area!

Written by | News

With over 65 local traders booked for the Christmas Craft Fair this coming Saturday, the annual Fair is the biggest of its kind in the area. The assembly hall at Wallace High School will again be a thriving hub of activity with a variety of handmade items on sale, as well as baked goods and other unique Christmas presents.

Buying local at a fair like this supports the local community. As one artist put it on Facebook: ‘Here is an Idea: Let’s buy Christmas presents from small local businesses and self-employed people. For example your neighbour who sells online or a local craftsperson who makes jewellery. Let’s make sure our money goes to individual people and not multinational companies. That way, more local people will have a better Christmas. Support real people and your community.’

Many of the traders who were there last year have come back again, which is a sign of a good craft fair. A flavour of the things that are on offer: handmade soap, cupcakes and tray bakes, handbags, scarves, framed tickets, personalised plaques and crafts, handmade jewellery, skin care products, cards, chutneys, preserves, fudge, popcorn, bread, scones, Pampered Chef, Feltmakers North, leather bracelets, teddy bears, vintage brooches, hand decorated vases, fairy doors, candles, nursery décor and mobiles, second hand bookstall and much, much more!
With the entrance fee of £2.00 comes a free cup of tea or coffee with seasonal treat. Children and pupils of Wallace High only pay £1.00. The Prep Choir will perform and of course Santa will make an appearance.

The Christmas Craft Fair is one of the bigger fundraising events on the PTA calendar. Last year, £2400.00 was raised, funds which are used to provide financial support for child-centred projects which might not otherwise receive funding. We always welcome requests from parents, teachers and pupils made by using the appropriate form. This can be found on the PTA page of the WHS website.

But apart from raising funds, the PTA also greatly values the sense of community that has always existed at The Wallace High School. At events like these, teachers, parents and young children come together in a relaxed atmosphere and have the opportunity to chat about other subjects than education!
