3606.jpgThe Wallace High School Parent Teacher Association held its first ever May Ball last weekend, raising funds not only for the Clonevin Park School but also for the PTA’s chosen charity, Childline NI. The glittering gala, held in Belfast’s Europa Hotel, kicked off in style with a drinks reception, sponsored by Diageo, in the Europa’s Library Bar.

During the reception guests had the opportunity to have their photos taken courtesy of Harrison Photography, whilst being entertained by the school’s musical theatre students and woodwind quartet. Upon moving into the Grand Ballroom, guests were welcomed by the Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association, Jim Ward , before he handed over to the Host for the evening, UTV’s Adrian Logan. During dinner, entertainment was provided by ‘The Leading Ladies’ who will headline at the Opera in the Gardens extravaganza on 7 July in Botanic Gardens.

Adrian Logan then acted as auctioneer, with twelve lots receiving healthy bidding. First up was a guitar signed by Irish Eurovision entrant Brian Kennedy, courtesy of Avalon guitars. Other auction highlights included sporting memorabilia, a Noel Murphy painting, flights to New York thanks to Continental Airlines, furniture from Gilbert Logans ,a weekend break in Loch Lomond, donated by Oasis Travel and a holiday in a Canadian villa, courtesy of Jolly Rodgers and Fortress Architectural Systems.

Stephen Stewart, chairman of the event’s steering committee, commented, ‘Thanks go to our guests who demonstrated such generosity throughout the evening and to the many companies who have shown such fantastic support.’

Committee member Mandy Harrison went on, “Parents, teachers, friends and pupils gave assistance in so many ways to ensure that our first May ball was so memorable. Diageo’s provision of a champagne reception was superb and Coca Cola Bottlers (Ulster) are unfailing in their support of the PTA. The House of Eliot kindly provided us with stunning floral arrangements whilst Clarins and Dillon Bass generously gave table gifts.

Prizes for the evening also came from many companies in the Lisburn area and beyond. Without such unstinting support the gala simply would not have been so successful. Following the auction, the Ball concluded with dancing to ‘The Big Kahuna’ .”

Chairman Jim Ward concluded, “My thanks go to all those who assisted in the meticulous organisation of the event and to the pupils who gave of their time so willingly on the night to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Not only will all Wallace High School pupils benefit from the efforts of the PTA but the very valuable work of Childline NI will also be supported.”
