Rugby Cup Success

The Wallace High School had a busy day last Saturday as they played in The Danske Bank Schools’ Cup 4th Round and also The Medallion Shield 4th Round.
The Medallion were up first with a 9.15 am kick off versus Dromore High School. Wallace got into their stride quickly and had scored three tries in the first ten minutes. Ben Finlay and Adam McCallum were real threats out wide while Adam Heaps controlled possession through accurate decision making.

At half time the score had reached 40-0. Wallace scored 26 unanswered points in the second half to cap a comprehensive 66-0 victory. The try scorers were Ben Finlay (3), Adam McCallum (2), Adam Galashan, Jonny Stewart, Michael Downey, Hector Epanomeritakis, Gary Dillon, Ryan Garnham and Adam Heaps. Kyle Hayes kicked three conversions.
At 10.45am, the 1st XV travelled to take on another seed, Ballymena Academy, in The Schools’ Cup 4th Round.
Wallace started brightly retaining possession and gaining good territorial advantage. Zack McCall drove over for the opening score which Ryan Moore converted. Ballymena replied with two well taken penalties. Just before half time Josh Collingwood went over for a try following good work on the ground by Ben Pentland. Moore again converted from out wide to leave the half time score 14-6.

In the second half Ballymena threw everything at Wallace but it was Wallace who got the next score from Jacob Stockdale who evaded the cover defence. Moore added the conversion to put Wallace into a commanding 21-6 lead.
Ballymena enjoyed a ten minute period of pressure in the Wallace half and scored a converted try to leave the score 21-13 with twenty minutes remaining. Stockdale scored his second try moments later to leave Wallace 28-13 winners. Ryan Moore enjoyed an excellent day with the boot kicking four from four.

Both Wallace cup sides have now progressed to the quarter final stages of their respective competitions. The 1st XV have been drawn away to cup favourites, Methodist College on Saturday 23rd February while the Medallion are home to Ballymena Academy this coming Saturday.
In other matches, the 3rdXV beat Antrim GS 1stXV 48-0. The U13A and B XVs won 17-7 and 37-5 at home to BRA, while the U14A lost 7-0 and U14 B won 46-5 away to BRA.
