The Wallace High School finished a hard rugby season with four notable successes. The Medallion won The Ulster Schools’ Plate Competition defeating Sullivan by 37-26. Chris Lister(2), David Scott(2), Ross Irwin and Jordan McMullan were the try scorers. David Scott kicked one penalty and a conversion while Connor Saunders also kicked a conversion.

The Senior Rugby Sevens B team won The Ulster Schools Junior Competition at Campbell College defeating Campbell College B 26-0 , Friends A 17-10, Wellington College A 28-0 and drew 10-10 with BRA B. In the semi final, Wallace beat Regent B 14-5 and went on to win 24-12 in the final against Friends A. Skipper Rory Stewart led by example with Adam Hanley, John Madden, Stewart Evans, Logan McCallan, Alastair McCollum, Daryl Corbett, Matthew Dillon and Colin Munn all performing at a high level.

The Wallace U14 rugby team have had a busy end to the season playing in two tournaments at Belfast Inst and Ballymena.

In the first tournament at Inst they started well with a 0-0 draw against Dublin side Terenure. Then a 43 – 0 win against Dungannon was enough for the team to top their group. In the semi-final, against BRA, Wallace fought hard and played some exception rugby, however lost the game 12-5.

Learning from this experience a confident and positive squad arrived at Ballymena determined to finish their season on a high. The tournament was run in a league format with Group winners going to the semi-final. Wallace won all four of their matches beating Dalriada 29-0, Belfast High School 12-5, Ballyclare 35-0 and Dungannon 29-0. Each game was keenly contested and the team were made to work hard for their scores.

In the semi-final against Larne the Wallace fifteen man game proved too much for the opposition and they ran out 26-0 winners. Armagh were the opposition for the final and having already been beaten by 30 points earlier in the season the Wallace boys knew this would be a difficult game to win. However, the team’s ability to retain possession, through several phases of play and keep the ball alive ensured they lifted the McCain Trophy, beating Armagh 29-0.

Congratulations must go to the whole squad for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
