Rugby Success

5406.jpgCongratulations to The Wallace U14XV rugby team, led by Andrew Oliver, who have had a busy end to their season, competing in three prestigious tournaments at RBAI , Ballymena Academy and finally at their neighbours, Friends’.

In the first tournament at Inst the Wallace boys started well with a 0-0 draw against eventual runners-up, Methody, but lost to Banbridge 7-5 immediately afterwards. Learning from this experience, they were defeated in the semi-final of the Ballymena tournament, but impressed their coaches by playing expansive rugby and demonstrating a high level of skill throughout the team.

Finally, a confident and positive Wallace squad arrived at Friends’ determined to finish their season on a high. This time their fifteen man game proved too much for the opposition. The tournament was run in a league format and Wallace won all four of their matches defeating Cambridge House 12-7, Belfast High School 17-0, Banbridge 19-0 and Friends’ 17-0. Each game was keenly contested and the Clonevin Park lads were made to work hard for their scores. However, the team’s ability to retain possession through several phases of play and to keep the ball alive ensured they lifted the T.A.L. U14 Shield.

Congratulations must go to the whole squad for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Even when results did not go for the team they continued to play positive rugby and they deserve credit for their achievements through a long hard season.

We look forward to hearing of their success at Medallion level next year.
