Congratulations to the Wallace High Lower Sixth team who came third in the recent regional heat of the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools’ Analyst Competition hosted by Stranmillis College, Belfast. The team – Christopher Nettleship, Adam Powell and Keith Moore won £100 to spend on equipment for the department.
This competition involved teams of three sixth-form Chemistry students, representing 13 schools from throughout Northern Ireland, carrying out chemical analysis. The students were assessed on their accuracy, precision and team work. This year the competition was sponsored by Norbrook Pharmaceuticals with the prizes awarded by Lynsay Cunningham from the company’s corporate section.
The experiments highlighted the important role played by analytical chemistry in the areas of the food industry, environmental water management and forensic science. The Wallace boys were competing against the following schools from across the province –

- Down High School.

- Lumen Christi College Derry
- Newry High School
- Our Lady’s Grammar School Newry
- Royal Belfast Academical Institution

Congratulations also go to our neighbours Friends School Lisburn who took home first prize and now go on to represent Northern Ireland at the UK Finals.
