Wallace Day 2020- Carol Service

Written by | News

Carols but not by candlelight!

For many members of the wider Wallace family Christmas begins with the school’s annual Christmas Concert which over the years has been held in various local churches in Lisburn and Hillsborough. In 2020, courtesy of Covid-19, we have a pared-down, socially distanced, seniors only event shot in the acoustically impressive Sports Hall. The acoustics compensated for the lack of aesthetic appeal!

Head Of Music, Mr David Falconer, was determined that senior students who had missed out on so much this year, should not lose out on the emotionally significant event of a final Carol Service. Socially distanced sectional rehearsals were held and everyone gathered (two metres apart naturally) to bring some seasonal cheer. Details of the programme included:

Once In Royal David’s City ( solo Ben Falconer )

Veni, Veni ( soloists Georgia Nicolls, Nicola Ruddell, Claire Dark)

Ave Maria

Adam lay y bounden

Riú Riú

Lully lulla lullaby (saxophone solo James Falconer)

Gaudete ( solo Georgia Nicolls)

Carol of the bells

In a moment of choral serendipity Erin Bailey was able to recall her first Wallace Carol service when she sang the solo verse of the traditional opening carol. Mr Falconer is already planning for December 2021 as we are all hopeful that we will be back to the oft mentioned “normal”. We hope that this virtual event will bring to each viewer a sense of this sacred season of the year and as a school family we thank all our Year 14 choir members for their commitment over the years. Come and join in next year!

A sincere thank you to Miss McMinn for her help with editing. Festive wishes from all in the Music Department.
