A Day to Celebrate a March to Remember
The celebration followed Wallace High School’s unforgettable victory on 17 March 2025, when the 1st XV defeated Royal School Armagh 24–15 at Kingspan Stadium. This win secured Wallace’s first outright Schools’ Cup title in the school’s history. The squad delivered a performance full of passion and precision, with standout tries from Rio McDonagh (2), James Gould, and Luke Dillon, alongside flawless conversions from Josh Geddis.

This long-anticipated triumph marked the culmination of decades of commitment to rugby at Wallace, from the school’s first final appearance in 1989 to a shared title in 2020, and now, at last, sole ownership of the coveted trophy.

An Evening of Reflection and Pride
The event played host to all the previous Schools’ Cup finals squads from 2020, 2015, 2007, 2003, 1994 and 1989, as well as the Board of Governors, coaches and the cup winning 2025 team. The event featured heartfelt speeches, a viewing of the historic final, and of course the Schools’ Cup itself.

Former finalists and cup winners were also presented with a souvenir Schools’ Cup Winners tie to mark this wonderful occasion.
Guests mingled over light refreshments while reliving some of the most thrilling moments from the March final, before enjoying a seated dinner. The sense of pride and community was palpable throughout the evening, with a strong turnout from across the extended Wallace family.

Principal Mrs Deborah O’Hare reflected:
“The celebration event was a truly special occasion for our entire school community. Our Schools’ Cup success in March ignited immense pride, and it was fitting that we marked that achievement together in such a joyful way. The evening reflected not only the victory itself but also the values that underpin our school—commitment, opportunity, respect and excellence. It was heartening to see so many familiar faces: current students, former pupils, and staff, all gathered in celebration. We are so proud of our players and of everyone who has played a part in Wallace rugby over the years.”

Master in Charge of Rugby Mr Neil Hinds commented:
“Our Schools’ Cup win was a historic milestone and this celebration was the perfect way to acknowledge the hard work, discipline, and dedication behind it. The 1st XV squad showed incredible spirit throughout the season, and it was a privilege to see them lift the trophy in March. At the celebration, it was especially meaningful to recognise the wider team—our coaching staff, support personnel, and the families who back our players every step of the way. This success has been years in the making, and the event allowed us all to pause and appreciate just how far we’ve come.”

Honouring a Legacy
The celebration paid tribute not just to the 2025 team but to the legacy of Wallace rugby. Alumni reflected on their own Schools’ Cup journeys, and guests shared stories of determination, near-misses, and lifelong friendships forged on the pitch. The spirit of the event echoed Wallace’s commitment to excellence—both on and off the field.
A Night to Remember
As the sun set over the school grounds, the sense of accomplishment was unmistakable. The Schools’ Cup celebration event marked a high point in the school’s sporting history and will be remembered as a fitting tribute to a remarkable achievement. The wider Wallace community has been left inspired and united, proud of what we accomplished and excited for what lies ahead.
