Learning Support at Wallace
Learning Support at Wallace High School takes many forms including that of whole school provision from classroom teachers who have been trained in areas such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. Further to this we provide more specific support to students with more significant needs. Prefect mentor support for literacy and numeracy is available throughout KS3, led by our numeracy and literacy coordinators. This is in addition small group support for literacy and numeracy provided by subject specialists.
Some students will join Year 8 with known barriers to learning and the school will ensure steps are taken to understand these prior to the commencement of term. For other students, barriers to learning may only become apparent as the post primary years progress. All staff are trained to monitor and refer students of concern to the learning support coordinator. Parents with concerns can also raise these, in the first instance via the Head of Year.
Referral to the Learning Support Coordinator will lead to assessment and evaluation. Appropriate provision will be put in place via the means of Pupil Passports, PLPs and, where appropriate and warranted, Access Arrangements for assessments.
This page contains a range of links to information and advice for parents to understand what steps can be taken to support children and their families if a barrier to learning is identified.
