Equestrian team riding high

Wallace High School is an environment which encourages staff and pupils alike to develop their interests and a keen group of students, supported by Mrs Scott and Mrs Crozier, recently enjoyed success in the TRI Meadows Equestrian Centre Inter-School Showjumping League. Thanks to consistent performances at fortnightly competitions from mid September to late November the Novice Showjumping team was awarded 6th place overall in the League. Our team, consisting of sisters Ceoladh and Caoimhe Crozier ( Years 9 and 11), Abbie McMillan ( Year 11) and Year 14 student Ailis Thompson performed with impressive consistency returning zero fault score sheets in five of the six competitions, resulting in their impressive placing.

The girls are to be commended for their dedication to the sport, effectively balancing the commitment of exercising their horses with the challenges of their school studies. Competition after competition saw the girls and their horses ready and eager for the sporting challenge and proving themselves excellent ambassadors for Wallace. The Belmont Hotel, Banbridge recently played host to the League Awards Dinner when representatives from sponsors TRI Equestrian, Lisburn Bowl and Bailies Horse Feeds were on hand to present prizes to a room full of young equestrian talent. The team, accompanied by staff members Mrs Scott and Mrs Crozier, thoroughly enjoyed their evening and are currently planning their strategy to move further up the league table in 2020!

Principal Mrs O’Hare commented:

“ We pride ourselves on being a school with something for everyone. I am delighted by the enthusiasm of our girls which is matched by the commitment of the staff supporting and encouraging them. At Wallace we compete to win and I know the girls share that competitive spirit.”
