Rachel Wins Top Photography Award

Wallace High School pupil and Press Team member Rachel Roberts has received a highly prestigious award from SERC. Rachel’s commitment to photography is evident through her active involvement in the School’s Press team and we are delighted she has received this acknowledgement through winning the Student of the Year Excellence award in GCSE Photography!

Rachel studied GCSE Photography at SERC through a collaboration programme with Wallace High School ; she was privileged to collect the award at the SERC Excellence Awards at the Lisburn Campus last month.

Rachel has a love for the art of photography and spends most of her spare time with her camera. Choosing to study photography at GCSE level has enabled her to develop her skills further, summed up in the photographer’s mantra ” capture the best shot in camera”.

Rachel’s final GCSE portfolio spans two years of creative work featuring various locations around the city of Lisburn. As part of the GCSE course Rachel had to complete three challenging projects for her portfolio: A sense of place’, ‘Joiners’ and ‘Changed’. The final images for each project were of such a high standard she attained an A* grade at GCSE and ultimately this photography award!

Wallace High School Vice Principal, David Cleland, commented, “This is a wonderful achievement for Rachel, a gifted photographer, and we hope this award is the start of a successful career in the creative industries!”

Rachel will continue to develop her photography skills by assisting with official school photographs delegated to the Press Team and searching for more great photos in her personal time! A link to Rachel’s photography portfolio can be accessed here:
