On Wednesday 25th February, the Assembly Hall was transformed into a dazzling theatre for this year’s much‑anticipated A Night at the Musicals – and what a night it was! From the opening number to the final bow, the evening was filled with talent, teamwork, and true school spirit.

A Spectacular Evening of Performance

Hosted with charm and humour by Year 9 duo Sam and Daniel, the evening flowed effortlessly. Their quick wit and friendly banter between acts kept spirits high, helping to tie together a wonderfully varied selection of performances from some of the most beloved stage musicals of all time.

Audience members enjoyed a vibrant mix of solo and group performances, each designed to get them swaying along. The show opened with Eve Rodgers delivering a stirring rendition of I Don’t Know How to Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar, followed later by Jessica Wilson transporting us back to the 1950s as Sandy in Grease with Hopelessly Devoted to You. The energy picked up as Year 11 pupil Ellie Reid belted out I Can Hear the Bells from Hairspray, while Amelia Armstrong brought the recent hit Popular from Wicked to life.

A poignant moment came with Year 8 pupil Eric Radecki’s heartfelt performance of Where Is Love?, the only male solo of the evening. Other highlights included the enchanting Tale as Old as Time, a magical underwater scene from The Little Mermaid, and Emilia Hadlo’s stunning rendition of Think of Me from The Phantom of the Opera, complete with a smoke machine to heighten the drama.

The show ended with a rousing group performance of We’re All In This Together, choreographed by Miss Cairns, reminding everyone that teamwork really does make the dream work. It was the perfect end to an evening that celebrated not only individual talent but also collaboration and unity across the school.

Behind the Scenes Brilliance

While the performers shone under the spotlight, the magic backstage was just as impressive. A dedicated team of Year 12 pupils, helped by Mrs Schumann, worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the show ran smoothly. The sound and lighting team, made up of four Year 12 boys, brought the stage to life with perfectly timed cues and dramatic effects – from soft spotlights to dazzling colour changes.

Huge thanks must go to all the staff who helped in so many ways – sourcing and creating props, assisting during the performance, and guiding the students throughout rehearsals. Special appreciation also goes to the PTA for running the ever‑popular tuck shop, keeping the audience refreshed and sweetened throughout the evening.

A Message from the Director

Reflecting on a wonderful evening, Director, Mrs Emma Rogers, commented:
“This was more than just a performance – it was a true celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community. Congratulations to everyone involved for making it such a memorable night! I was incredibly proud to see students of all ages supporting one another, stepping outside their comfort zones, and demonstrating such professionalism on stage. The dedication shown throughout rehearsals was inspiring, and the final result reflected just how hard everyone worked to bring this production to life.”
