Wallace’s Year 14 students have surpassed the outstanding achievements of the class of 2018 by raising the 3 A* to C % yet again which is a testament to the hard work of both students and staff. A minimum of 3 A * grades was achieved by 5 students, 29 students attained a minimum of 3 A*/ A grades and a further 15 a minimum of 2 A*/A  grades. Kirsty Dawson and Julie Yeow secured their Oxbridge places; Kirsty will read Natural Sciences at King’s College, Cambridge and Julie is Oxford bound to read Engineering at Lincoln College.

Sixth form students at Wallace are involved in a target setting process which begins on the first day of Year 13 and the aim is to help each individual student establish realistic grade aspirations and make well-informed university and course choices. The merits of this approach can be clearly seen in the outstanding 88% 3 A* to C figure with many students gaining a minimum of 3 B grades at A2. Staff were also delighted to observe that a number of students improved significantly upon their AS level performance which proves there is encouraging truth in teachers’ exhortations about the value of perseverance, resilience and hard work.

In keeping with national trends fewer students are opting for 4 AS subjects but within this cohort 5 students ( Thomas Allen, Jasmine Cairns, Lewis Higginson, Ben Parker and Anna Trimble) achieved 4 A grades; a significant number of last year’s top GCSE students who concentrated solely on 3 subjects attained an excellent 3 A grades which bodes well for A2.

Principal Mrs Deborah O’Hare said:

“ I am delighted that yet again we have outstanding A2 results with the vast majority of our young people securing their place on one of their chosen university options. Not every student can be an A* student and as educators our job is to identify each individual’s potential within their chosen subjects and help them attain their best possible result. I am confident that many of our young people have attained results which are genuinely reflective of their ability and application and I wish them every success in the next phase of their education. I know that the students acknowledge the very significant role their teachers have played in stretching and supporting them and I would like to say thank you to the staff for their commitment and the excellence of their teaching.”
