Wheely well done!

In June the Wallace Wheelers took to their bikes to complete the Castle to Castle Challenge, a gruelling route from Carrickfergus to Ballycastle. To add insult to injury the trio of lady teachers had the return journey to complete on the following day! Team leader, the redoubtable Mrs Maggie Hunter, was accompanied by her two knights in shining armour (or perhaps sweaty lycra) husband Mike and son Patrick; Mrs Gregg had the encouraging support of her husband Steven. Mrs Lisa Whitcroft was the final member of the Wallace staff trio embracing the challenge.

The ladies recently attended a ceremony to celebrate the success of the venture. A grand total of over £35,000 was raised, including a magnificent contribution of £5,528.75 by the Wheelers, for the Oesophageal Patients’ Association. Helen Setterfield Chairperson of OPANI noted her delight that more than sufficient funds have been raised to introduce new and innovative forms of treatment for several types of cancer as a specialist from the City Hospital will travel to Japan in November for training.

Mrs Hunter observed, “The event was a challenge without doubt, but there was tremendous camaraderie during our training sessions and the weekend of the fundraiser! We were delighted to support this cause and thrilled to know that the initial target was thoroughly beaten. Many thanks to all who contributed.”
