Fantastic FIRST Tech Team

Written by | News

Congratulations to the FIRST Tech challenge team who were the highest scoring team in the Northern Ireland regional finals of the Star Wars Skystone sponsored by Qualcomm game. Using strategy and tactics the team worked out the best way to score the most points consistently during each qualifying round. They now qualify for UK championships to be held on the 27th and 28th of March in the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park.

The FIRST Tech Challenge is an International competition with many links to the technology industry.  The teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Students develop STEM skills and practise engineering principles while realising the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Each year the game is changed with different objectives and point scoring opportunities. The robot must be redesigned and reprogrammed using a variety of languages, including Java to carry out the various new tasks. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards.  Each season concludes with the regional championship events and an exciting FIRST Championship held in the United States.
