The Wallace High School Junior Girls’ Netball team returned from the League finals in Dublin last week as All Ireland Champions.
The squad had travelled to Belfield the day before the final, sharing a coach with a team from Ballyclare High School. Caroline Davis commented, “It was great fun travelling with the Ballyclare girls . We stayed in the Montrose Hotel and enjoyed bowling and Laser Quest the night before the game, which helped take our minds off our nerves.”
Sophie McClean went on, “When we saw our opponents – Rathdown School – we were initially quite apprehensive as they were a year older and quite a bit taller than us. It took a while for us to settle into our game but I’m glad to say that all our practise had really paid off. Thanks to the superb efforts of our coaches Miss Farr and Jackie Portis we were soon in the flow of the game and working really well together.”
Captain Sarah Montgomery concluded, “Winning 42 – 8 was tremendous and I’d like to thank Jackie and Miss Farr for all their work with us . Thanks must also go to Miss Coughlan who, along with Miss Farr, accompanied us to Dublin. It was great to see so many of our friends and family travel down to offer us support. Finally I’d like to thank all the squad for their amazing effort – we all really enjoy playing netball and are thrilled to bring another Irish title back to Wallace.”
