4605.jpgThe Wallace High School First Xi progressed to the Semi Final of the Schools’ Cup on Monday with ahard fought victory over Belfast Royal Academy last Monday.

Wallace batted first and following the loss of early wickets, Ian Whitten (26) and Gary Crowe (26) batted sensibly in taking the score to 49 for 3 in 11 overs. Ali Nagfi (21) joined Crowe amd continued to build the innings. Further wickets tumbled but Richard Webb (28 Not out) showed good shot selection and a calm head and along with Gregg taylor (10 Not out) put on 34 for the last wicket. Wallace reached 154 for 9 in 40 overs.

Wallace began with a discilpined spell of bowling which paid dividends as Gary Crowe took three early wickets. He was ably assisted by Skipper Richard McConkey. A fourth wicket partnership of 63 was broken as Magee lifted a McConkey delivery for wicket keeper Harry McAleese to take a good catch. Wickets contiued to fall with McConkey finishing with figures of 5 for 29 and Crowe 4 for 14.

Jack Andrews made 48 for BRA before being caught by a full length dive by Jonathan Crockett which swung the game to Wallace. BRA made 122 all out, with Wallace winning by 32 runs.
