The Wallace High School Boys’ hockey First XI embarked on a short tour to Bath recently to take part in the prestigious Public Schools’ Hockey Festival.
The Lisburn lads played in the highest section of the tournament and produced four grittty displays against top opposition from England and South Africa. Despite defeats in their matches, the Wallace coaches were extremely pleased with the boys’ skills, attitude and performance on the pitch. Wallace also took part in the best match of the entire festival, losing 3 – 5 to Merchant Taylor’s College.
Goalscorers were Richard McConkey, David Bolton – with a cracking shot into the roof of the net – and Andrew Bruce, with a reverse stick thunderbolt. Andrew Scott also emerged with great credit for his individual performance against an English Under 21 international.
The Wallace boys were an absolute credit to the school and they conducted themselves superbly both on and off the pitch. Player of the tournament was Andrew Bruce whilst Andrew Scott was a closer second.
The touring squad was – Ross Johnston (Captain), Richard McConkey (Vice captain), Aaron Baxter, John Baxter, Sam Haldane, Ali Nagfi, Andrew SCott, Chris ogan, Patrick Black, Andrew Bruce, David Bolton, Michael Hunter, Nathan Langtry, Chris Henry, Jamie Brown, Patrick Keery, Stephen Doherty and Neil Campbell.
