110206.jpgThe Wallace High School netball squad last week won the Northern Ireland Championships and are now looking forward to playing in the All Ireland Finals. The squad, which last year won Area, Northern Ireland and Irish titles at Minor level has enjoyed an exciting path to this year’s Irish Final.

They defeated Assumption Grammar by 29 – 13 in the Area Finals and went on to defeat St MacNissi by 20 -14 in the quarter finals of the NI League. This proved to be a very tight encounter, with the Lisburn girls taking a while to settle as they were very nervous. However the Wallace defence truly showed their abilities in this game and held firm against a talented opposition.

In the Northern Ireland Semis, the Wallace girls defeated Lismore by 33- 11 and then travelled to Omagh to face Sacred Heart in the Finals, which they won by 29 -13.

Captain Sarah Montgomery commented, “We are all quite nervous but very excited about the Final and we really hope to bring another Irish title back to Lisburn. We’d like to thank our Coach Jackie Portis and our Manager Miss Farr for all their hard work this season.” All at the school wish the girls well as they travel to Dublin.
