Wallace High School once again enjoyed considerable success at the Ulster Schools’ Badminton finals last Friday, scooping an impressive total of six titles.
In the Primary League the Prep Boys’ team of Jason Elmore, James Calow, Michael Finlay and Adam Kavanagh were runners up whilst the Girls’ Team of Lyndsay Ferguson, Lisa Macdonnell, Laura Howard and Yasmin Finlay brought both League and Cup titles home to Clonevin Park.
In the Ulster Cup, the Minor Girls’ team – Caroline Davis, Ashleigh Stephenson, Caitlin Dornan and Holly Clarke enjoyed a comprehensive 6 – 0- defeat over Sullivan Upper. At Junior Level, the Wallace A Team – Emma Calow, Pippa Taggart, Kathryn McGladdery and Ashleigh Davidson defeated the Wallace B team -Katie Reid, Alison Topping, Sophie McComish and Lyndsay Cresswell. The Senior Girls’ – Gemma Ritchie, Jenny Irvine, Michelle Davidson and Laura Rodgers, were defeated by old rivals Royal and Prior by 5 – 1 in both Cup and League Finals.
In the League, the Junior Wallace Boys – Chris Davis, Chris Scott, Tony Stephenson and tom Harris were defeated by Royal and Prior whilst the Minor girls – Ashleigh Stephenson, Caitlin Dornan, Lynda Newell and Tessa Stewart were victorious.
The Junior Girls’ League team of Emma Calow, Caroline Davis, Ashleigh Davidson and Alison Topping enjoyed a 6 – 0 victory over Royal and Prior.
Teacher Miss Andrea Spiers commented, “All in all this has been another very successful season for all involved in badminton here in Wallace. The standard of play at the Ulster Finals was superb and our Girls’ Minor and Junior League teams are now looking forward to the Irish finals in Gormanstown later this month.”
