8403a.gifWHS Show jumping teams are jumping for joy over their recent successes in prestigious competitions. In The Mossvale Winter Show Jumping League, a competition run over 6 months, the Wallace Rockets, a Team made up of Jenny Close, Rosie Curry, David Curry and Kerry Beacom, came 1st out of 18 Teams, winning The Wallace High Perpetual Trophy. This was a particularly sweet victory as the Trophy had been presented by the school to Mossvale in 1997.The Wallace High Hopefuls team made up of Rebecca Ward, Chloe Thompson, Kathryn Henderson and Judith Graham with substitute William Greene from Belfast Institute, shared 4th place with Banbridge Academy.

Mrs Beacom, one of the parents and team manager, said “It has been a long but very rewarding 6 months and it was great to bring the cup home. Pupils and parents put in a lot of hard work not to mention the ponies. However, interest in show jumping is growing in the school as so many pupils have their own ponies or are interested in riding, so we hope to have some excellent teams next year.

Riding is a great sport and although very hard work for all concerned it is a great confidence builder and a chance to learn worthwhile skills. Any one who works with animals knows that you have to put them first and to turn out successful teams the pupils have to demonstrate commitment and fitness at a very high level. Every competitor deserves congratulations”.
