Staff and pupils at The Wallace High School recently said “Adiós” to Manuel Trujillo who spent the month of November in the Lisburn school. Manuel, a teacher from Madrid, was over on placement as part of a Spanish government initiative called the PALE programme and observed lessons in both the Technology and ICT Departments in order to improve his teaching of these subjects in his secondary school in Spain.

Mr Alan Monteith, Head of Technology, worked closely with Manuel and commented: “Manuel impressed us all with his positive attitude and sense of humour and I know that staff and pupils were sorry to see him return to Spain. He also commented on the excellent facilities in both departments and throughout the school.”

Principal, Mrs Deborah O’Hare added: “We were delighted to welcome Manuel to our school. He was a real pleasure to work with and to get to know. His impressions of our education system were very positive. He commented on the excellent facilities in Wallace, the wide and varied extra curricular programme and the very good and respectful relationships evident between the staff and the young people. ”

On his last day Manuel welcomed visitors from the PALE programme to Wallace where they spent the day on a tour of the school and also meeting with staff and pupils. He was genuinely delighted with the welcome he received: “It has been a very profitable experience, both professionally as a teacher of these two subjects and personally because of the welcome from both staff and pupils.. I would like to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome and hope that this is the first of many visits to Lisburn and Northern Ireland.”
