Wallace High School pupils have once again demonstrated that they are “Worldly Wise” by winning the final of The Geographical Association’s quiz. The event, hosted by the Geography Department in Queen’s University, Belfast, saw Wallace compete against Methodist College, Belfast and The Royal Belfast Academical Institution . Head of Geography in Wallace,
Barbara McKee, explained,”It really was a nail biting evening, with Wallace and Inst. going into the final round neck and neck. I am delighted to say that the Wallace team of Jamie Pow, Fiona Campbell and Chloe Minish remained calm and focused to the very end and were worthy winners.”
Year 12 pupil Fiona Campbell went on, “It was a terrific experience and we were delighted to bring the cup back to Wallace again. Following our success in the Northern Ireland Finals last year we went on to win the UK Championship “I hope we have the opportunity to compete in that again this year as the time we spent at Malham Tarn Field Centre was thoroughly enjoyable .
Year 11 pupil Jamie Pow added, “We would like to thank our teachers Miss McKee and Mrs Singleton as well as our fellow team members Matthew Clark and Peter Muldrew who came along to support us. Thanks also go to our families who offered such fantastic support from the floor!”
Barbara concluded,”This highly respected quiz encourages pupils to consider Geography beyond the classroom and I’m delighted that Wallace’s tremendous record in the competition has been continued in the face of such challenging competition.”
