Wallace High School student Kerrie Patterson has won the prestigious British Nutrition Drummond Award which highlights her superb ability in Home Economics at GCSE level. Kerrie and Debbie Wallace (Head of Home Economics) were presented with awards by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) Annual Day at the Royal College of Physicians, Regent’s Park, London.

Kerrie and Miss Wallace were delighted to win this year’s BNF Drummond Award which recognizes and rewards excellent achievement and good practice in food and nutrition.

Miss Wallace said: “Kerrie was joint top candidate for CCEA GCSE Home Economics in Northern Ireland and this was acknowledged by SEELB at their annual Outstanding Achievement Awards last week. In addition, we were very honored to be presented with our Drummond awards by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, who is patron of the BNF. As a school community we are all very proud of and delighted for Kerrie who is so deserving of this success.”

Kerrie said: “It was such an honour to win this award and I would definitely mark it as my proudest academic achievement to date. The work of the British Nutrition Foundation is truly remarkable and I would encourage everyone to visit their website. The highlight of my trip to London was receiving the award from Princess Anne and also meeting many inspirational nutritionists from across the UK.”

Kerrie’s mum, Mrs Patterson also took great pleasure in seeing her daughter being presented with the award by Princess Anne. “It was a lovely occasion; we are very proud parents – not just for Kerrie’s achievement but also for the incredibly hard work she puts in to everything she does. I was pleased that the Home Economics department was also recognised for having attended this ceremony five times with winning students – a fitting tribute to an outstanding department!”

Kerrie is studying AS Home Economics and is very much enjoying developing her knowledge and understanding of food and nutrition this year.
