The Wallace High School (WHSki 2016) ski trip saw forty three pupils and five staff enjoy five action packed days on the slopes at two venues in New Hampshire, USA over the recent February half term break.
The first two days skiing were spent in Waterville Valley which enabled the beginner groups to get going on more gentle terrain and allowed the skiers to get their “ski legs” back, whilst the final three days saw the group move to Loon Mountain which brought a bigger challenge for everyone with two mountains and many kilometers of tree lined piste to explore and conquer.

Bear Claw (Green) Blue Ox (Blue) and Flume (Black) where the pick of the runs for each ability group. With the help of their instructors and staff for four hours tuition each day, all groups made great progress and improved their technique and speed which meant that everyone was ready for the traditional final day’s challenge, conquering the summit of North Peak.

The stunning panoramic views of Mount Washington from the 3050 feet summit of North Peak provided the backdrop for the final day. Pictures were taken at the top and the ubiquitous “selfie stick” helped store some cherished memories forever. Having all safely skied down from the summit the trip ended with the traditional WHSki Awards and USA quiz in the excellent Black Bear Lodge and expertly hosted as always by trip organiser Mr Reid.

Throughout the week apres ski activities included ice skating, outlet shopping at Tilton, a trip to the local Waterville cinema and swimming whilst on the last day the group enjoyed their annual shopping and sightseeing morning in Boston which brought some culture and retail therapy to the group. As ever, Abercrombie and American Eagle proved popular with all, whilst the variety of food on offer in the world famous Quincy Market provided some much needed nourishment before the flight home.

Mr Jonny Reid, teacher in charge of the ski trip was delighted with the success of the trip and commented: “I wish to thank the staff for giving up their half term holiday to accompany our young people on this exciting trip and a big well done to the 2016 WHSKI crew for your company, sense of fun and improvements on the slopes which was, as ever, great to see.”

“Our group were complemented on their great attitude and behaviour by everyone we met and I am already looking forward to our next school ski trip. As our ski motto says…eat-sleep-ski-repeat.”
