Success at the Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition

Jonathan Scott and Laura Williams, both Year 14 pupils at The Wallace High School recently achieved success at the Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition held by the Ulster Women’s Unionist Council in the Senate Chamber at Stormont.

Jonathan was awarded first place for his speech on “The Hidden Side of Everything”, about the recent phone hacking scandal, whilst Laura was highly commended for her speech “Without Community, there is no Liberation”, about working together in the community.

Emma Rogers, Teacher in charge of Public Speaking at Wallace was understandably delighted with the performance of both pupils: “It was a great achievement for Jonathan to finish in first place in such a prestigious public speaking competition, whilst Laura deserves immense credit for her speech also. Public speaking continues to be a popular activity in the school and we are all proud of the recent success.”
